Channel 4's Rome Wasn't Built in Day
Bringing history to life, a new Channel 4 series has rebuilt a high status Roman town house on the site of the fourth largest city in Roman Britain, Wroxeter.
Viewers of the six part series followed the construction – using traditional Roman methods – of ‘Villa Urbana’. Six skilled builders including foreman Jim, plasterer Tim, plumber Kevin, carpenter Fred, brickie Darren and labourer Ben were shown trying to construct an authentic Roman villa, using only tools and materials that were available to the Romans. The villa is for English Heritage and they had just six months for the job.
And from Saturday February 19, the newly-built Roman villa has been open to the public, giving visitors a chance to see the replica fresh from its starring role in Rome Wasn’t Built In A Day.
